Almshouses, E5

Situated opposite the picturesque setting of Clapton Pond, this stunning Almshouse development of 5 properties offers a rare opportunity to secure a slice of history with a bespoke modern finish.

The Almshouses are made up of 5 separate dwellings including the Chapel, which is believed to have been the smallest Chapel in England. They were erected in 1665 with money left by Thomas Wood, who was born in Clapton in 1607 and became Bishop of Lichfield after the English civil war and have recently been fully restored by the current owner.

This development won Hackney Design Awards 2020 Heritage and Restoration category, announcing it a sensitive and sympathetic restoration within a heritage setting.

Originally an 8,000 sq ft occupied warehouse, we achieved planning permission in January 2011 for 35 student accommodation units, plus commercial space. We then pre-let the units to Sanctuary Housing on a 25-year lease and completed the building work to their specification, as well as leasing the basement to SAFE Studios for 15 years.
